All honestly, there is hardly a thing on Earth I hate more, than the tell-me-about-yourself question. This strong and never changing feeling is so tenacious and constant, that I cannot even say what sunny period of my happy life it dates back to. I can remember this question asked by every new teacher both at school and at the university. My traditional answer for this question always was: "My name is... . I am ... years old. I graduated from school # ... . If you have any comments or questions, you are welcome to ask them." Occasionally I added: "Thank you for your time", but that was optional. Teachers were always so naive - they thought I wanted to impress them and all that sort thing. But I don't. I just don't like that tell-me-about-yourself question, I say.
What I was talking about? Aha, about myself. Well, actually that's a pretty long talk, to cut the chase I would just say, that there is a cool little poem, that to my mind can describe me better than heaps of resumes (by the way the resume is also here: and there I have tried my best - Sie können Gift darauf nehmen! ;] ), that's from Luis Carroll, "Alice in Wonderland". Listen:
They told me you had been to her,
And mentioned me to him:
She gave me a good character,
But said I could not swim.
He sent them word I had not gone
(We know it to be true):
If she should push the matter on,
What would become of you?
I gave her one, they gave him two,
You gave us three or more;
They all returned from him to you,
Though they were mine before.
If I or she should chance to be
Involved in this affair,
He trusts to you to set them free
Exactly as we were.
My notion was that you had been
(Before she had this fit)
An obstacle they came between
Him, and ourselves, and it.
Don't let him know she like him the best,
For this must ever be
A secret, kept from all the rest,
Between yourself and me.
Clear as day, isn't it? And now, thank you for your time! ;]
